Franz Drameh Joins The Flash / Arrow Spinoff

We can add one more name to the cast of The Flash / Arrow spinoff series… that is Franz Drameh from Edge of Tomorrow. Drameh joins Brandon Routh, Victor Garber, Caty Lotz, Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Arthur Darvill and Ciara Renee in the new CW series executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim.

The character is named Jay Jackson, a former high school athlete, whose pro-career was derailed by injury. Now making ends meets as an auto mechanic, Jay will come to have a surprising affiliation to the S.T.A.R. Labs crew. According to early reports there were three characters to be cast with Darvill and Renee being the first two, the final character was said to be a young black man who got super powers in an accident and was the self-aware, snarky voice on the show.

Jay Jackson doesn’t not match up to any obvious DC character, but this could be a fake name to keep the surprise or it could be a think like Harrison Wells, made up name that is really an established character. The description of the character made me think of three possibles. Static from the initial description. Cyborg from the new description of being a former athlete. Or the long shot that this is Wally West… both names use alliteration, the name Jay reminds me of Jay Garrick and Kreisberg had talked about Wally coming onto the show in the future. He may also be a recasting of Jason Rusch.

Full Title Of The Flash / Arrow Spinoff

Yesterday we shared with you a video of John Wesley Shipp from The Flash where he referred to the new spinoff series as Legends. Turns out that may be partially true. Variety ran a story talking about the offering at MipTV in Cannes where the international market can bid on new television series. The CW was pushing a series called Legends Of Tomorrow.

With MipTV wrapped, the focus now shifts to the L.A. Screenings in May. Big product suppliers were using MipTV to talk up L.A. Screenings bows that include, in terms of shows attracting attention for WBITVD, “Supergirl” for CBS, “Blindspot” for NBC, “Legends of Tomorrow” for CW, and also “The Curse of the Fuentes Women,” for NBC.

This could be the title of The Flash / Arrow spinoff that is set to star Brandon Routh, Victor Garber, Caty Lotz, Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Ciara Renee and Arthur Darvill. But it is possible that the title is a place holder. We are likely to hear more about it at the CW’s upfronts presentation on May 14th.

Marvel Developing An Agents Of SHIELD Spinoff

Reports say that Marvel is developing a spinoff of Agent’s of SHIELD for ABC. With the likelihood of a third season on the horizon, the show currently averages 7.4 million viewers and a 2.8 rating among adults 18-49, when including the Live +7 data. The mid-season spinoff Agent Carter is said to have about a 60% chance of returning as well. So ABC is looking at the SHIELD brand as being successful and wants more.

No details on the spinoff were available and both ABC and Marvel had no comment on the news. But with the success of the CW’s shared DC universe and the hype of the upcoming Netflix series starting with Daredevil it only makes sense ABC would double down.

This season the cast of SHIELD has grown quite large, so spinning off a few characters should be easy without it affecting the main series. You could easily move Mockingbird off on her own with Mack plus there is the character of Deathlok that made his return this week. It wouldn’t be a stretch to seem them make a team of powered characters as a strike force or have one group continue dealing with the everyday SHIELD stuff while another specifically goes after Hydra. Lots of possibilities, but I think whatever they plan on doing we’ll have a better idea of when the season ends.
