When Doctor Who returns for its ninth series next week, it will see the return of two-part episodes; a format missing from the show between 2011 and last season’s finale. BBC America released this video of co-star Jenna Coleman and executive producer Steven Moffat discussing the format’s return:
Previously, perhaps in Doctor Who Magazine, Moffat suggested the two-part episodes would not be as connected as they had been in the past. Coleman’s comments make me wonder if, perhaps, he was being overly mysterious.
The cliffhanger is such an essential piece of Doctor Who storytelling that I find it strange one would act like it’s not a big part of the new year. Unless, maybe, they don’t do as well ratings-wise? In any event, we’ll see what form the two-parters will take when Doctor Whoreturns on Saturday, Sepetember 19th.
